Anachronism in Movies

THE GRADUATE

This artwork is based on the movie, The Graduate, starring Dustin Hoffman. This is

one of my favorite movies and this is the most famous scene from it.

THE RED BALLOON

This artwork is from Albert Lamorisse' classic short film, The Red Balloon. This is the opening scene of the movie.

THE KING'S SPEECH

This artwork is based on the King's Speech as well as on artist, Julian Opie's style.

CROWS ZERO

This artwork is based on the characters of Crows Zero, with acrylic paint and watercolour for the faces.

Sapam: Concentration work 2

- It is a rock resembling a whale, with a knight, a tree, fire and smoke on top it. The fire resembles the water that whales pump out from their backs. The tree resembles a fin, up to a certain degree.

The source of calmness within this desolate setting where the background is blank comes form the smoke. The smoke shows the the man things he wants to see to get through the night or his journey. The smoke is provided by the rock, whose face emanates a sense of calmness.

Despite the desolate surrounding, which simply consists of water, and a blank sky, there are other rocks harboring other travelers similar to the knight too. These other rocks are seen as two specks in the background.

Christine: Memory

Here are my first two art pieces. Both of them having to do with various memories of mine. The one on the left, being the memory of prom which I attended in the States last year; and the one on the right being my memory of growing up in Calcutta, as a Naga girl amongst many other Indians - Bengalis.

Sapam: Concentration Work 1

-When people have distracting or angry thoughts, they try to calm themselves with a certain item. In my case, I simply think of a nail in various backgrounds, which mainly serves as that item that blocks every other thought in my head and gives me a sense of calm.

I have always wondered about how amazing it would be to have a blue sun, so I put it in my work. along with that I reversed the natural order of colors with the sun with the sky too. I believe still water serves as a source of calmness (not influenced by chinese movies), which is why I put in still water that serves to reflect the nail.

Luniva: The Future

 What stance will my religion have in the future? When modern technology advances to a whole new level - an unforeseen future where culture and religion may no longer rule the lives of people who have become obscure to the morals their ancestors were brought up in?


My two pieces are somewhat contradictory to each other. My first is composed of a robot/machine hand and a human hand pressed together forming a "Namaste".


"Namaste" is a general way of greeting one another in Nepal (as well as India) - it is a sign of respect. But in a more Buddhist perspective it can mean '"The God in me greets the God in you".

My second piece is one that juxtaposes two different ideas: to devote, and to disrespect.

I was inspired by Banksy's stencil work as well as by the aircraft graffiti that was prominent in Wars.

In a way the stencil of Lord Buddha shows that the driver of the futuristic automobile is 'devoted' to buddism, but in another perspective, it is somewhat disrespectful to have his face graffiti-ed on a form of transportation.

The cloud forms the Buddhist sign "endless knot" which signifies the wisdom of Buddha - one which has no beginning nor an end (it has many other interpretations).

SuWan: concentration

My concentration is pattern.

I found that repetition of same image can make different image as a whole.

Also, even though I used the same object to repeat, I made some differences between and that created a better pattern.

I chose phone and camera for this first two art works. Both of the objects really mean something to me; camera, I like taking pictures, phone, the only thing that I can actually talk with my parents and friends.
