November Concentration

Semester One Concentration

My concentration is based on the culture of Nagaland, a small state in India which is my home. The culture and diversity between different tribes intrigues me and I want to show it through my pieces. The medium used for my art are mostly watercolor, acrylic, charcoal and ink. There aren't many people who know about Nagaland, and if they do it is a very stereotyped view that is portrayed in the rest of India, such as images of headhunting and eating everything that moves. I want to show the unique aspects of the culture, such as the strength of both masculine and feminine roles, the spiritual life of rituals and the decorative forms that are part of this rich culture. All of these aspects help form my identity as I venture out in the larger world.

1. i really love the simple yet intricate designs and colors used in alll of the these art. All of the artwork focuses on emotions, life and fate.

2. the artwork as mentioned are expressing emotions of love, pain, depression, happines and surreal moments.

3. i would like to add more emotions and color into my body of work. also experimenting different styles of using ink and acrylic to bring more idea of a surreal world.

4. i really like Aya Takano's style of art, the use of basic and subtle colors to bring a sense of surealistic world really interest me. Aya takano uses her culture as a base for all of her art work. i too am using my background of culture as the main idea of my art, therefore it inspires me.

she is also a manga artist, illustrator and a science ifction essayist. her art is simple yet detailed and abstract to some extend.

Concentration, Culture and Mythology

Word: HEADHUNTER
My concentration revolves around the idea of my culture, Nagaland. The idea of how my people came to be and their stories and folklore are going to be the concentration of my art. The technique of shading and capturing facial expressions and movement through the use of simple base colors are going to be used. Simple, but important jewellery has different meanings to it and practices such as headhunting and its transition to modern ethics are to be portrayed. I have great interest in my ethnicity and hope to achieve and do justice through my art.
